Carlos Correa should help the Astros take a step back to contention
A new crop of future MLB players were drafted to teams on Monday. Some will sign. Some will return or go to college. Some will be future All-Stars, maybe even Hall of Famers. Some will still be in AAA when they are 30. The baseball draft doesn’t have the immediate impact of the NFL or NBA draft, but it is the lifeblood of most organizations – all 40 rounds. Onto the news of the week.
- Carlos Correa was selected #1 overall by the Houston Astros. Here’s a comparison to some other recent top picks.
- Mark Appel, who many had tabbed as the #1 pick fell to the Pirates with the 8th selection. He then proceeded to get shelled by Florida State at the super regionals.
- Eric Karabell and Keith Law provide a wrap up to the 2012 MLB Draft.

Jose is actually still intimidating
- Jose Canseco is apparently still playing and still getting ejected from baseball games. You can find more Canseco updates here.
- An unending hype machine, Bryce Harper hit his 1st career walk-off HR against the Mets.
- Kevin Millwo…err…the entire Seattle Mariners team finish off a tag team no hitter against the LA Dodgers. 6 pitchers, no hits.
- Aroldis Chapman finally gave up his first earned run of the year and got the loss. We think he’ll be okay.
- If the season ended today the playoffs would look like this:
- AL: Division Winners: Tampa Bay, White Sox, Rangers. Wildcards: Orioles, Yankees.
- NL: Division Winners: Nationals, Reds, Dodgers. Wildcards: Braves, Giants.
